PV System Designer

DESCRIPTION

​

The PV System Designer is responsible for learning and refining their process of designing code-compliant residential solar photovoltaic systems following engineering department policy. Developing an understanding of structural and electrical engineering concepts and calculations is a necessity for this position. This position is focused on developing individuals to become qualified PV Designers. This is a fast paced yet detail oriented position.

 

Your primary function as a PV System Designer will be to analyze how a customer uses energy in their home and then accurately design a PV system that maximizes their savings with solar.

RESPONSIBILITIES

​

  • Create, review and modify drawing sets in AutoCAD and custom software tools.

  •  Complete electrical and structural designs for photovoltaic projects.

  • Research, document and comply with local and national code requirements in project jurisdictions.

  • Coordinate with Site Assessors, Project Management, and Sales teams to complete designs meeting the customers’ expectations with strict deadlines

  • Create project bills of material

  • Assist in documenting and developing industry best practices, standards and guidelines;

  •  Delegate project completion tasks to other engineering team members;

  •  Utilize software systems to record progress of various tasks;

  •  Demonstrate ethics and professionalism at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  •  Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field required

  • OR Bachelor’s degree in non-engineering field and 1 year of solar industry experience required

  • OR Associate’s degree in design related field and 1 year of solar design (or 2 years of solar industry) experience required

  • OR NABCEP (PV Installation Professional) certification and 2 years of solar industry experience required

  •  Basic knowledge of the National Electric Code preferred

  • Basic knowledge of residential construction techniques is a plus

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred

  • Critical thinking and ability to solve problems
